Out Of My Window by Kuldeep D. Gohel, eBook, 29 pages
Synopsis from the author: "Out of My Window" tells the story of Mitram, who is searching for a new place to live after being asked to vacate his previous residence. He is shown a room by Ramnikbhai, a character who highlights the room's features, including an unusually large window. The story begins with Mitram's observations about this large window, setting the stage for the unfolding narrative. The book explores themes of the unknown, as Mitram settles into his new environment. The window, likely a central element in the story, hints at deeper meanings or future revelations that Mitram might encounter.
BOOK REVIEW: The original language this book was written in is Gujarati which is primarily in India (yes I looked it up) and at the end of the book it is noted that the author translated this into English themselves with the help of Google. I love the transparency. This is a short and sweet story that is full of mystical and magical feelings, for me anyway!
I think my favorite part was the reaction Mitram has upon first seeing Anjali. I know that if I looked out my window and it appeared that I was looking into someone else's house, it would freak me out. Then again, how many times growing up did I wish that I could look out the window and be transported to another time and/or place. It is actually really hard to write this review with the whole book itself being only about 25 of the 29 pages. I don't want to give anything away!
I give this a 5 star rating. The translation made sense, I think I may have a caught a few errors but nothing that takes away from the story. Maybe a couple of repetitions that weren't necessary but for someone who translated this with Google Translate and Chat GPT I'm impressed. I definitely think the whimsy of this would make a good story to read to my daughter who is about to be 7 years old. Definitely give this a look if you need something short and easy to read. It is currently available only as an eBook on Amazon and is in the KU member library.
