The Daisy Chain Reaction¹ by A.C. Toy, eBook, 266 pages

Synopsis from GoodReads: Rose's life spirals out of control as she becomes trapped in a series of time lapses. Each night, she awakens in an unfamiliar medical space she calls The Room, where a man named Charlie subjects her to strange medical treatments. In her waking life, Rose is a journalist in love, planning her future, and working to stay grounded, but the boundaries between reality and The Room begin to blur.

Desperate to communicate and escape the invisible force pulling her back each night, Rose must confront the terrifying possibility that her mind is being manipulated and that she may be losing her grip on reality. With each passing day, the stakes grow higher as she battles to reclaim her life, but The Room may have a stronger hold on her than she ever imagined.

BOOK REVIEW: This was a wonderful story. I love that the text chain between Rose, her sister, and bestie is called The Daisy Chain. It makes me want to start a group text with my two besties from high school and give it a cute name. I found out about this book and author (yet again) from TikTok and I'm so glad I did. I mentioned to the author that my brain was trying to connect dots early on in the story and she told me to let her know if I had been on the right track...and I kind of was! The author does a wonderful job building her characters, the scenes, the details, and naming the cat Rose wants to adopt Dolly Purrton...SO CUTE! I also love that she includes other forms of communication and languages. ASL is prominent in the story because her sister is deaf. She also learns Morris code which comes in handy in several different situations.

Overall, this is a 4.5 for me. There were times where it felt like the story was moving too slow or she acknowledges that she has missed a chunk of time and just rolls with it when in reality I don't think I could have been that easy going if I started dating a guy, find out at a dinner that I think is the first really get together with him and my family only to find out that we've been together for a couple of months...there were real world events brought into this in a way that really hit home. I laughed, I cried, I got nervous and scared with her. This really is a great story. This is the author's debut novel and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!
