Am I Crazy or Is This Perimenopause Mom Life

As I'm getting older, there are two fictional women that I feel embody the season that I am in right now. First we have Evelyn Couch from Fried Green Tomatoes (my favorite movie and food btw). This particular scene.

I have said and felt everything she has said in the last six years!

Then there's Kitty Forman from That 70s Show. I can't find any of the shorts that have multiple clips of her moments (there is an 11 min long video but didn't want to add that here. But this clip! It makes me grateful that my husband is not like Red.

Crazy...menopause makes me crazy???

Now that I've given these examples, I want to tell you a little something that happened to me last week. It was a shit day Wednesday. Not weather wise but like I wanted a drink and it wasn't even 10am. What happened? Well I'm so glad that you asked! Let me set the scene.

I get up, let the dogs out, and feed them by about 8:30am. Now I'm in my office, door open, and letting them in and out the front door as they bug the crap out of me. At 9:30am, I found that the puppy puppy, Remi (long story short, our GSP was barely a year old and knocked up our neighbor's English Lab and she had one puppy left and we took her and she is the spawn of Satan), counter cruised in the kitchen and found one of my tiny coloring books from A Brighter Year and she ate like 3/4 of it. I know she ate it because I only found maybe a quarter of the pages chewed up and the rest was just gone. Of course she got in trouble and I put her in her crate.

While locked in her crate, I put Winni outside and I barricaded the kitchen to keep them out. Dog in the first picture is Remi, the coloring book eater and spawn of Satan mentioned earlier.

These are smart dogs and I wasn't sure if these would actually work but they have. BUT THEN barely a half hour later she was counter cruising the breakfast bar. No matter how many times I have told my husband I want that bar cleared off ALL THE TIME, it becomes his dumping ground and she was destroying papers from there so I added this lovely barricade with a couple of the boxes from my new bookcase.

Cardboard boxes stacked up to block a walkway.
You can also see the dumping ground that is the breakfast bar.

The dogs could clearly jump over these but they haven't. All three of these have been set up since Wednesday and I'm writing this on Saturday. So barely 10:15am and I was done and wanted to day drink but my husband had to go into the office for a big meeting so that wasn't an option. Thankfully this wasn't the same day that Winni nipped my kid in the face otherwise I might have murked both dogs and told my husband that their collars died and were charging when they got out and never came back (I want to be 100% clear...that was a feeling only. I could and would NEVER do that but I would lock them outside to keep my kid safe).

It was warm but not too hot and I decided that since my husband got a new battery for the lawn mower that I would finally go mow the lawn. I'm not gonna lie. When I sat down and turned the key, I closed my eyes and crossed my fingers and hoped that it would start. Every time I've gone out to mow for the last two years, it hasn't started on the first go for me but this time it did! No codes on the tiny little display and I thought I was in the clear.

I have my route that I do when I mow. I start along the driveway, follow the road around to the backyard, down the little hill, up along the path behind the house, around to the front, and back down to the driveway. Lather, rinse, repeat. I do change direction about half way to make it easier to get around the chicken run and some of the trees HOWEVER at 1:16pm I sent this image to my husband.

Riding lawnmower with a grocery bag by the wheel looking out at a yard with a blue house, white deck and stairs in the background.

I made it down the slight hill in our backyard, came to the big tree and stopped to move a big branch. I left the mower running but didn't make sure the break was engaged so it stalled. Once I moved the branch, I couldn't the the mower to start again and I was getting the "CLn AIr FIll" on the tiny screen. I thought my husband had replaced the air filter but after a few back and forth texts and videos, he informed me that the filter was in the basement. I may have been pissed because what do you mean you had the filter and you didn't change it when you got the new battery?!

I changed the filter and the damn thing still wouldn't start. I was using Google to troubleshoot in between my husband's texts. About 5 minutes later texted him that I'm overwhelmed with the day and over it all! Overall I was fighting with this damn mower for about 15 minutes when I realized that at some point, I left the blades down and the engine won't start if the blades are down. I almost cried, finished my first pass around the yard, and parked the mower. By the time I got back to the front of the house, I ultimately continued and I'm glad I did! It was turning into a jungle.

A couple hours later when my hubs was getting ready to leave work, he asked if I needed him to get anything and I told him dinner. I told him that I was not making anything or doing anything the rest of the day. We opted for pizza and I gave him my order. When he was almost there I asked him to stop and grab me some cherry vodka because we have Dr. Pepper and that sounded really good. He called me from the liquor store and told me they were completely out of cherry vodka and started giving me all the other flavors. I wanted to cry. I told him if there wasn't any cherry then nothing at all but he found a hidden dusty bottle and I felt I finally got a little win.

After dinner, all I wanted to do was get comfy in my fluffy chair in my room with my drink and my Kindle. I got my candle warmer going, my lamp on, and my soundscape going only to have my husband throw the door open and flop onto the bed. I was seeing flames and red. Between all the events of the day, my hot flashes, my hormones going all over the place, I got a little vindictive. I was reading a thriller and listening to this mystery/thriller soundscape. It's a loop and it starts really loud with what sounds like rain. I slowly started turning the volume up when I realized that homie fell asleep. I was done being Mom for the day. Needless to say, when the track started over, it was so loud it startled him awake and I looked at him and asked if he was okay. I had already turned the volume back down a little and he got up and left.

Now that I've gotten here it definitely was the next day that the dog nipped my kid in the face. I hope and pray that this is a better week to come! I'm gonna wrap this up. I want to get more posts up moving forward and not just having the website be all book reviews (I am not going to stop reading). We have school starting in a few weeks and other family life things happening. I can share more of my struggles with perimenopause mom life along with some crafts and such that will start going up on WIP Wednesday on Instagram and Facebook. I'm trying to think about different recipes that I want to come up with to share more recipe cards with y'all. I'm gonna go read!
