Whistlin' Dixie in a Nor'easter¹ (book 1 in Dixie series) by Lisa Patton, audiobook, 10h 49m
Synopsis from Audible: Southern belle Leelee Satterfield leaves her beloved Memphis to follow her husband's pipe dream: to manage a quaint Vermont inn. But when they arrive, young daughters and ancient Yorkie in tow, they discover pretty fast that there's a truckload of things nobody tells you about Vermont until you live there. When Leelee is left swindled and snowbound, she's forced to confront the true depth of her Southern grit in this foreign town.
BOOK REVIEW: This gave me all the feels. I may not have been born in the South but I will tell you that in the 5 years that I lived in Louisiana, nowhere ever felt more like home. No matter how much I complain about the heat and humidity, I prefer for the weather to make me sweat than freeze. Perimenopause is making me sweat year round now so I thought I would add the distinction with WEATHER....IYKYK.
The narrator for this audiobook was wonderful! She sounded so much like Wendie Malick that I made her the main character even though she doesn't fit the physical description. She made subtle differences in her voice for Leelee's besties and did a great German accent for Helga and French accent for Pierre. She gave life to the characters and animated them in a way that I was able to imagine so vividly. She even describes certain scents she comes across that I could almost smell.
This was 5 stars all the way. Would I have enjoyed this book if I read it? Oh yeah. Did I enjoy it more by listening to it? In this case, absolutely! I honestly couldn't say if I would want to read book 2 immediately if I had read it but I definitely want to listen to it. I also really want to know how the author came up with the ski lift scene (no spoilers) and I have to know if people really call it Poonin'. I will say that I thought it was going to end differently than it did but can't wait to see what happens with Leelee next.
