GUMDROPS, GHOSTS, AND GRAVEYARDS Book Review

green and orange background with a caldron, plate with candy, jack-o-lantern, bats, and a black cat on a broom.

Gumdrops, Ghosts, and Graveyards by Kathleen Suzette, Book 2 in A Pumpkin Hallow Candy Store Mystery, eBook, 134 pages

From GoodReads: When someone digs up the graves at the town's old abandoned graveyard, Mia and Christy find themselves wrapped up in a spine-chilling mystery. The graveyard caretaker, Ed Robinson, is discovered dead amidst the age-worn tombstones, just days after trying to ward off the mysterious gravedigger who has been unearthing the resting places of Pumpkin Hollow's ancestors. With Detective Banks officially on the case, Mia and Christy decide to conduct their own investigation. Armed with determination, sisterly intuition, and a handful of candy for sustenance, they delve into the town's mysteries to catch a killer. But the closer they get to the truth, the more danger they find themselves in. The mysterious gravedigger might not be the only one with a dark secret in Pumpkin Hollow. Can Mia and Christy unwrap the mystery before the shadows of the past come back to haunt them? Indulge in a bewitching blend of cozy mystery, family bonds, and delicious candy.

While I love these little "who done it" stories by this author, I am only knocking it down from a 5 star because I am no longer enjoying the spouse of a detective in a small town going behind their back and conducting their own investigation. Don't get me wrong, I am still reading these stories even though that aspect drives me bonkers (same as The Cozy Baked Mystery series by this author). Knowing that this is a spinoff series from Pumpkin Hollow Mystery series, I want to go back and see how those stories play out and if I get to know some of the other characters more. I can't wait to see what happens in the next story.
