Beck and Call (book 1 in Beckett Fall series) by M.A. Lakewood, eBook, 235 pages
Synopsis from GoodReads: He’s the alpha masquerading as town council president. She’s a shifter pretending to be human. Fate says they’re meant to be—if only they’d sit down and talk it out. Olivia Montclair is seeking a fresh start in the small, rural town of Beckett Falls. She craves a judgment-free life among a pack and is willing to hide who she is to get it. Pretending to be human is risky, but it might get her exactly what she needs. Ben Beckett is the pack’s elected alpha. To human tourists, he’s the town council president. To locals, he’s the kid they watched grow up and the adult they put in charge. When his wolf catches a whiff of Olivia, Ben realizes she’s a potential mate, but he has no idea just how true that is.
As sparks fly and secrets threaten to surface, their unavoidable connection deepens at a laugh-out-loud pace. To get to their happily-ever-after, Olivia and Ben must learn that true love isn’t about perfection, it’s about finding the courage to be yourself and trusting that your mate will love you for exactly who you are. Witty banter, close friendships, shifter hijinks, and a thick slice of spicy romance make for a small-town love story full of big laughs and bigger growls.
BOOK REVIEW: This is definitely a fast paced book but not in a bad way. Like you can definitely get into and be done in a day. The characters are fun, the town is fun, the back and forth is fun, it's all fun...a little spicy...but that is to be expected with these shifter type books. Especially when wolves are involved. *Swoon*
I love the dynamic that Olivia and Ben have right off the bat. Like she knows that he is an alpha but he doesn't know that she knows. I personally don't like the possessiveness that wolves have, especially alphas but that is just me and not something I take out on the book because that is their nature.
This is a 5 star for me. Like I said, the characters are fun, the small town is just that...a small town of just over 200 people...and it's a trusting community. The spice was spicy in a hot way and not a raunchy way or too detailed. I'm not a fan of some of the verbiage but that's on me, not the writing, which the author did swimmingly! The chapters switch back and forth between Olivia and Ben and the chapter titles are silly and fun. I know this is the first book in the series so it's exciting to see what comes next. Will it be Olivia and Ben's next chapter or will we be focused on two other characters (which I think I might know who it would be focused on or at least who I would like it to focus on).
